Lancaster Monday morning again saw a rise in number across all sale sections, with prices well inline with the national trends. New and additional buyers are anticipated in forth coming weeks.
SPRING LAMBS
Spring lambs sold to a top of £170 and 405p/kg on several occasions for Texel cross from WA&LM Jenkinson, Stalmine. Other better end lambs were £148 to £160 and 350p/kg to 380p/kg, with all lambs today averaging a market SQQ of 350p/kg.
PRIME HOGGS
Buyers still keen to secure all classes of hoggs to fulfil order, with today’s SQQ average 318p/kg, with the overall market average being 297p/kg.
Charollais cross hoggs led today sale at £176 for heavy weights from AG Butler, Hambleton. Other better end heavies £160 to £168 and the next draw down £148 to £158. Standard weights sold to £157 for Continentals from G Beresford, Kirkby in Furness, with others £151 from KA Purtill, Wigan who also sold light weight hoggs to £140.
T Taylor, Woodplumpton led today’s sale selling Continentals at 357p/kg, with other better end well finished hoggs 340p/kg to 355p/kg and mediums 310p/kg to 330p/kg. The best of the heavies sold to 306p/kg, with other heavier hoggs 282p/kg to 295p/kg.
Several mature hoggs sold to £153 for Cheviots and 313p/kg for Texels.
CAST SHEEP
A wide range of cull ewes forward, generating an impressive average £143.93. Top price of £210 for a Charollais from GS Lander, Warrington with other stronger end first cross ewes £180 to £200. Medium ewes were £160 to £180, to including North Country Mules at £184 from RW&FJ Rhodes & Son, Quernmore and £176 from both S Wilson, Scotforth and P Metcalfe, Quernmore. Pure hill ewes sold to £134 for Gritstones with Dalesbred to £126.
